Copper Development Association makes significant sustainability leadership statement as first to achieve 700 published shared materials on Toxnot.
For today’s manufacturers exploring options to streamline the safety of their products, one of the biggest hurdles to overcome is gathering product and material data efficiently from suppliers. Copper Development Association Inc. (CDA) has recently made a strong statement in displaying leadership towards their commitment in improving manufacturers’ abilities to achieve full material disclosure for safer product design.
CDA is an association of the North American copper industry, committed to promoting the proper use of copper materials in sustainable, efficient applications for business, industry, and the home. In collaboration with WAP Sustainability Consulting, CDA is the first Toxnot user to achieve recognition for publishing over 700 shared materials, which represent all the active wrought and cast copper and copper alloy products registered in the Unified Numbering System (UNS) for alloy designations, on the Toxnot platform. An incredible result, and no small feat, this coordinated effort proactively addresses how manufacturers can improve product transparency and identify chemicals of concern existing throughout supply chains.
Toxnot Shared Materials is a direct feature within the Toxnot platform that enables suppliers to expand the accessibility of their material data to all users across the system. When suppliers opt to publish their material ingredient as a shared material, they’re given a flexible way to easily share data securely to anyone. Each shared material published by CDA streamlines the exchange of its members’ product material data to both their current customers and potential customers seeking alternative product ingredients. That means any manufacturer can instantly see a material’s compliance data, visualize its chemical makeup, review each chemical’s hazard rating, see the product percentage by weight, and much more.

By recognizing the importance of improving access to product data and ensuring its members’ customers can efficiently access their material ingredient data, manufacturers using copper in their products are able to meet product compliance requirements and obtain sustainable certifications for their products more easily.
Claytor notes that CDA plans to expand on leveraging Toxnot Shared Materials, stating that, “Since new copper alloys are continuously developed and registered to suit emerging and unique applications, we’ll continue to add them to our library of shared materials on a regular basis. We also plan to leverage the compliance data captured in the shared materials by developing compliance reports to support our members with their related customer inquiries. Most of all we’re excited to work with Toxnot users to help them better utilize the copper and copper alloy shared materials to optimize their materials selection processes.”
